opinion: GENOCIDE(TM)

GENOCIDETM is a branding created by the LTTE and pro-LTTE supporters. The LTTE attempted interpret the military offensives against the LTTE as genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

With the LTTE losing Kilinochchi, the LTTE began their GENOCIDETM campaign.

opinion: discriminatory progamming

How we humans are discriminatory by nature and how our cultural, religious and social values contribute in countering or encouraging such behavior.

Discrimination

Discrimination can be defined as "the denial of equal access to social resources to people on the basis of their group membership." Preferential treatment towards a person based on caste, religion, skin color, etc.

opinion: Terrorist LTTE supporter Jan Jananayagam running for EU office to kill Sri Lankans

Jan Janayagam is trying to bamboozle the UK citizens into interfering in affairs of foreign countries. She has never been to Sri Lanka, and has only been influenced by LTTE propaganda.

opinion: ceasefire = technical time-out

The only way peace would have worked with the LTTE is with the establishment of Eelam. Since they knew the government would never submit to that, for the LTTE, every ceasefire was a technical time-out.

opinion: buddhist values

The four fundamental Buddhist values: Metta, Karuna, Mudita, Upekkha - We are reminded of these four values every time we pass the Kanatta round-about.

I am agnostic. But I appreciate Buddhist philosophy. Sri Lanka is apparently a country founded on Buddhist values.

opinion: state, regime and patriotism

the reason i am writing this note is because i got a few e-mails ridiculing the opposition and previous regimes. this is part of my reply to them.

state and regime are two different entities. extremists and some nationalists may interpret being anti-chinthanaya is to betray the state. but i strongly disagree.

i saw this statement in a comment made by a friend of a friend: "Your hatred lies cos 4 the fact LTTE's attack which killed 100's of Sinhalese"

that is one way of looking at it.

but i'm sorry i don't share that view.

opinion: ceasefire

A ceasefire has been issued. Sometimes I wonder why the pro-LTTE diaspora is still protesting?

opinion: reasons to rejoice

Did the world not rejoice when WWII was over? Because innocents didn't have to die anymore. Because the world was exhausted in fighting a fascist. (At least that fascist didn't die while escaping.)

While many of us Sri Lankans appreciate the recent defeat of a fascist terrorist organization some are of a different view.

opinion: nepotism in sri lanka

we accuse the govt of being nepotistic by appointing friends and relatives as high ranking officials. but i feel it's in our culture to do so.

out of loyalty and affection, parents would appoint their kids as ceos or other high ranking executive positions even when they are not ceo-qualified and lack the vision and leadership to be a ceo.
