how much CO2 can wood produce

we were trying to figure out how much CO2 does wood produce during gasification.

my approach is the carbon mass balance...

carbon in wood undergoes gasification to produce CO and CO2 and combusts in a burner to produce CO2, while a small fraction of carbon does not get gasified and extracts out of the gasifier as char and tar.

wood (gliricidia) consists of 50% by weight. ash / tar / char formation is about 5% and wood used in gasification has about 20% moisture.

so the total effective carbon content in SynGas produced by 1kg of wood is:
(1000 x 0.80 x 0.50 x 0.95)/12 = 32 mol

so SynGas will produce 32 mol of CO2 per kg of wood, which is about 1.4 kg of CO2.

note that the 32 mol CO2 released gets reabsorbed in energy plantations, unlike diesel or petrol.

1 liter diesel produces about 2.7 kg of CO2
1 liter of petrol produces about 2.6 kg of CO2

the CO2 in aerate beverages (such as coke) are produced from diesel combustion!
